Captain Storm
There may or may not be some embellishment to this review…
“I booked what I thought would be a routine airport ride, but it turned into something straight out of a comic book. My driver—let’s call him “Captain Storm”—was cruising down a quiet stretch of highway when a blur of brown darted into the road. A groundhog froze in our headlights, smack in the middle of our lane. I braced for impact, but Captain Storm reacted faster than human reflex should allow. With one hand still on the wheel, he spun the van into a controlled swerve, narrowly missing an oncoming truck, then executed a move I’ve only seen in action movies—braking just enough to block traffic without causing a pileup.
Before I could even process what happened, he was out of the vehicle, neon vest flapping like a cape. Cars honked as he dashed into the road, scooped up the trembling groundhog, and sprinted back with Olympic speed. He gently placed it beside a patch of woods, gave a little salute, and jumped back behind the wheel as if saving wildlife mid-route were standard company policy.
The rest of the drive continued in stunned silence until I blurted, “Do you do that often?” He just smiled and said, “Only when the universe calls.” When we reached the terminal, he handed me my luggage, nodded toward the horizon, and drove off—cape or not, still very much a hero in my book.”
